I Am Your Beast Story and Characters: A Spoiler-Light Guide

Meet Alphonse Harding and the COI, understand Support Group and Cold Sweat, and place Quitting Time in the story.

Updated

Alphonse Harding and the COI

The official game description introduces Alphonse Harding as a secret agent who has been retired for six years. After another request for a final assignment, his refusal starts a conflict with the Covert Operations Initiative, or COI, in the North American wilderness.

That premise gives the encounters their context: Harding is fighting the organization that trained him. For a first playthrough, follow what the characters say about duty, obedience, and leaving that life behind. Treat their statements as perspectives within the story rather than a neutral account of every event.

Leave room for the story between runs

The base game presents a fully voiced campaign and uses animated typography for its cutscenes. Let those scenes play before returning to improve a time. A fast restart can be useful for practice, but taking in a scene once helps connect otherwise brief combat stages.

This guide covers the setup and expansion structure. You can use it to choose what to play without learning the campaign’s ending or the outcome of individual confrontations.

Understand the free additions

In the developer’s Xbox Wire article, Support Group is described as COI agents recounting their experiences of Harding during the main game. Cold Sweat is presented as a set of unusual challenges without a story focus. If you want narrative context, finish the main campaign before exploring Support Group; approach Cold Sweat when you want further combat challenges.

Where Quitting Time fits

The official DLC page places Quitting Time before the main game, in Southeast Asia. It introduces Harding’s handler, Colonel Charles Burkin, and a rival organization called the Patriotic Defense League.

Playing the base campaign first preserves its introduction to Harding. You can then approach the prequel with a useful question: how does his earlier faith in the organization compare with the person you have already met? That is a reading suggestion, not a required unlock order.
