I Am Your Beast Enemies: Read Threats and Reuse Gear
Understand the COI opposition, prioritize threats by position, and turn enemy equipment into the next step of your route.

Who is hunting Harding?
The main campaign pits retired operative Alphonse Harding against the Covert Operations Initiative, or COI. His refusal of another assignment leads to the conflict across the North American wilderness. The official description emphasizes using opponents’ own equipment against them and leaving through Harding’s tunnel network before the pursuit closes in. Official game description.
For practical play, an enemy is both a threat to your movement and a possible source of the next tool. Plan the encounter and the pickup together instead of treating them as unrelated decisions.
Sort threats by what they make you do
A first-hand Steam player review describes melee attackers, gunmen, armored soldiers, and snipers. That is a community account, not an official exhaustive unit taxonomy. Use these practical questions rather than assuming undocumented health values.
| Threat you observe | Question to answer before committing |
|---|---|
| Nearby attacker | Can you finish the encounter and leave without stopping? |
| Gunman covering your path | Where can you interrupt the exposed approach? |
| Distant sniper | Can a different angle reduce the time you spend exposed? |
| Armored opponent | Does your chosen action work reliably in this version? |
Priority depends on the route. The nearest enemy is not automatically the most urgent if another opponent controls the crossing you must use next.
Make equipment part of the route
The developer explicitly lists pistols, sniper rifles, and bear traps among the available tools. Look at what lies on the path toward the objective, and decide which encounter supplies what you need afterward. A detour for a preferred weapon should earn its cost through a more reliable next section.
During practice, observe what happens when your planned pickup fails. Having a simple alternative is more useful than improvising a complicated recovery while already under pressure. Test that alternative during a learning attempt rather than during your best rank attempt.
Keep faction context separate
The Quitting Time prequel introduces the Patriotic Defense League in its own conflict. That story information should not be turned into an unsupported base-game enemy chart. Official DLC description.
This guide supplies no invented damage table, guaranteed stun duration, or universal counter. Check the objective, available equipment, and observed behavior of the opponents in the level you are actually playing.
Apply the equipment plan to a real level
Use the first-run guide to decide where an encounter fits into your route before selecting a pickup. For a specific bear-trap search, the Midnight Trails guide documents the community-reported fifth trap on a less obvious ledge. That location is a lead for that stage, not a general equipment spawn rule.
